This month we feature another woman of strength who overcomes life’s obstacles for something that is worthwhile. Here is Anne Williams’ story.
“I started running about five years ago when I was diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis, an inflammatory bowel diseased that affects not only the bowel but also your joints and other parts of the body.
Ulcerative Colitis is a life long illness with no cure. Medication and exercise were prescribed to keep my illness in remission.
I was always a gym goer but I decided to give running a go and have not looked back. Despite a few non-running periods due to ill health, I have completed numerous 5k and 10k races, two half marathons and I am currently training for a full marathon in September. I am also about to undertake the Great North Run this weekend, which has always been one of my dreams.
I would encourage anyone with Crohns Disease or Ulcerative Colitis to start walking or running as it has helped immensely with not only my physical health but also my mental health.
And now I get to fill lovely medal racks with all my achievements”
