How good are those days when you're just so pumped up to go for a run or hit the gym and you can't wait to get out there!
Unfortunately, we also have the other days when we just just can not be bothered. We might spend hours thinking about it, sometimes we even manage to start getting ready but then have second thoughts.
Quite often we'll even give ourselves excuses, there might be a little voice saying "You've worked hard this week, have a break."
Well here's 5 quick tips to get the devil off your shoulder and do the right thing!
1. Set Yourself Up for Success
If you're planning on exercising in the morning, get your kit laid out the night before. You want to make the whole task of getting out the door as easy as possible. If you want to take it a step further you can even sleep in your gear!
If you're an after work exerciser, prepare your kit in the morning so it's ready for when you get back. Better yet, take it to work and get it done on the way home!
2. Make the Mountain Smaller
Do a deal with yourself. Even if you were planning a big training session, just tell yourself you're going to do 2 miles or a quick 15 minutes of weights and that's it. It's a much smaller task, it will get your blood flowing and freshen you up for the rest of the day.
(Spoiler alert: Most of the time you'll end up doing more as the hard part was starting!)
3. Bribe Yourself
This is one of my favourite tricks! In the mornings I'm able to appeal to my half-asleep self through bribery.
With some strategic route planning I'm able to swing past a coffee shop and grab a proper coffee on the way back from running or working out. Now that I've packed in both exercise and a decent coffee, I'm unstoppable.
What else was I going to do, make myself a cup of instant and waste half an hour staring at my phone?
4. Get Some New Music to Listen to
Having a new album or playlist that you love can drastically improve your chances of going through with your planned exercise.
Important note on this one, do it ahead of time. On many occasions I've spent too long searching for music that it ends up being too late.
5. Watch a Motivational Youtube Video
If the other four tips stirred your motivation, this one might just get you fist-pumping in your living room. Here's my favourite video for a healthy dose of motivation - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SuPLxQD4akQ
